Children’s Glaucoma Foundation | Give a Cuff®
- Unit price
Childhood glaucoma develops in 1 out of 5,000 children and is the leading cause of childhood blindness, in which high fluid pressure in the eye damages the optic nerve, affecting 300,000 children worldwide. While glaucoma can’t be cured, early treatment- including medication and surgery can help control it. The Children’s Glaucoma Foundation (CGF) is dedicated to improving and supporting the quality of glaucoma care throughout the world through continued research, physician training, and assistance to affected families, as well as raising awareness to this aggressive childhood disease. This charity is particularly special to us, as our 8-year-old daughter was born with congenial glaucoma, having her first surgery at just six weeks old, and 5 more surgeries since. When we met her amazing doctor, Dr. Walton, he told us something we will never forget- “it is not a sprint, it’s a marathon”, that childhood glaucoma is a condition that will require lifelong care and how important it is to focus on the now and not look too far down the track. We are still running the marathon and have learned many things along the way. Eight years into our marathon, we have a courageous, strong daughter with a fighting spirit that is able to see the beautiful world around her thanks to her amazing doctor and his team and the work of the CGF. We are living proof that glaucoma can happen to anyone, so as a family we feel compelled to educate others about the seriousness of the disease.
We are donating 68% ($17!) of each individual cuff sold, directly to The Children’s Glaucoma Foundation in hopes of raising awareness and money for research in the hope that we can better understand the disease and hopefully one day, find a cure. Here’s a little bit about our Eye Cuff.
