The Gianna Cirella Memorial Fund | Give a Cuff®
Gianna Cirella was a 16-year-old junior and the goalie on her high school soccer team at Toll Gate High School in Warwick, RI. She was easy-going, beautiful, and the ultimate life of the party. In 2017, Gianna complained of a sore throat, which quickly turned into pneumonia and ultimately a severe blood infection known as sepsis, which unexpectedly took her life. Sepsis is the body’s overwhelming response to infection which can lead to tissue damage, organ failure, and death. At least 270,000 people in the United States die each year from sepsis and after she passed away, Gianna’s parents were alarmed that research was so sporadic and that more hasn’t been done to battle this serious infection that takes more lives than breast cancer and prostate cancer combined. Gianna’s bright, warm personality had such a positive impact on so many people in her community, her family created this local foundation in her name.
We’re donating 68% ($17!) of each individual cuff sold, directly to the Gianna Cirella Memorial Fund. The money raised will provide assistance towards medical research of sepsis and help sepsis patients, along with their families, in time of need. Let’s join together in hopes that one day, no one will lose their life to sepsis. #GiStrong
